Water pollution index of high Andean micro-basin of the Chumbao River, Andahuaylas, Peru

During its journey, the river water suffers natural or anthropic contamination, deteriorating quality. This impact can be qualified by determining pollution Indexes (IPO). The work aimed to evaluate spatial and temporal variation of IPOs in high Andean micro-basin Chumbao River. study included section from 13°46'38.4” S, 73°15'32.3” W at 4079 m altitude up 13°35'26.4” 73°27'00.8” 2572 altitude. Physical, chemical, microbiological parameters were determined 8 points along river. These grouped calculate IPO mineralization (IPOMI), organic matter (IPOMO), suspended solids (IPOSUS), trophic (IPOTRO) dry rainy seasons. indexes categorized 0.0 (not polluted) 1.0 (highly polluted). data collected triplicate valuated through ANOVA Tukey's test. It was found that IPOSUS, IPOMI, IPOMO. near head reported no low pollution; besides, they increased considerably urban areas reaching highly polluted levels. In contrast, IPOTRO a eutrophic state, contamination levels higher season. waters River above 2900 close do not show but area index is high.
